Fate Sends Us Penelope Henderson McBulkeley

As fate would have it, I ate too many berry crumb bars and drank too much wine on the 4th (yes, wellness coaches still overeat and overdo the cocktails on occasion, but that is another topic for another post). My body doesn’t handle the combination very well, so I ended up wide awake at 3:30 AM. I went downstairs and started working (aka surfing) on my laptop. I randomly googled “chocolate lab puppies northern virginia” and Cresthill Kennels came up. Of course I clicked on the Litters page and again, fate intervened…their most recent litter had a last-minute cancellation and a 10-week old chocolate female available. A little bit later, I called and talked to the breeder, Wendy, who was amazing. She told me that typically litters are reserved months in advance, but this one darling, little sweetie pie was available. Again, as fate would have it, this pup was supposed to be Wendy’s to keep to breed, but the pup had an underbite. With an underbite, she couldn’t be bred or shown, so Wendy couldn’t really keep her. Voila, available and absolutely adorable.

I asked Wendy to send me a current pic…this is what she sent me:

Um, after that, there was no chance that we weren’t getting this pup. I emailed Wendy and told her we wanted her. Bob and I picked her up yesterday and she has made herself right at home.

I believe in grieving the loss of a pet and I had no intention of getting a pup this soon after Winnie’s passing. But when fate smiles upon you with such a blessing, you jump at it with all your heart.

Read my post about Winnie here. Miss Penny has HUGE paws to fill.
